Film Poster

we decided that we wanted a picture of the killer as our film poster. We took many photos so we could use the best one and edit it in photoshop. We decided this was the best photo and we wanted to use this for our magazine cover

As shown in this picture we have heavily edited the photo so that it fits in with the horror genre. We changed the contrast, hue and gamma levels so that the figure would be less detailed so someone who was viewing the poster would not be able to see them in dertail and so we could keep some mystery. When then decided to change the colour of the lighting as the lighting in the photo was to bright for a horror poster, we change the colour to blue as we felt this gave the photo a ghostly feel and would help to achive the mysterious look we wanted the figure to have.

Horror Film trailers

Both trailers are very interesting and have conventions i would like to use in my film trailer as they are both horror movie's which i believe i could achive some similar results to through editing.

The Hills Have Eyes

The music at 1:06 in this video is very usefull as before this the audience has been quite calm with the music playing in the background and no shots have been used yet to create tension or suspense, however this use of stopping the non diegetic music has no put the audience on edge and would be very useful to incorporate into my trailer. From 1:06 to 2:16 editing speed increases and the shot types change; the editing is now very quick and does not let you see a shot for very long this builds alot of tension as the audience can not take in all what they see and makes them feel uneasy. The shots types have now also changed with mainly close ups and extreme close ups being used this works well as the audience is unable to establish things to make them comfortable for example the location, this again makes the audience uneasy and because of the use of very low lighting there is also more tension being built. I will try to incorporate what i have discussed here into my film trailer.

American Psycho



I have decided to analyze the American Psycho film trailer because i believe it would be very useful for the making of my film trailer. The use of music at 0:27 shows that the quotes on screen which are normal of the business world but because of the use of the non dietetic music conveys that these are now not just business quotes but the actual meaning of the words, the music also adds to the building of the psychotic personality being built for the character Patrick Bateman. This use of music could be very useful to incorporate into my film trailer. The shot used at 2:17 is also very useful to help towards my trailer because it has very good use of editing and because of this does not need special effects to show the axe hitting the victim, this is helpfull for my groups film trailer as we will not be able to use special effects which would be available to hollywood films.
